Stability

Stability promises security, belonging, and a place within an established order. For many young people, the pressure to secure a stable job or own a home begins long before graduation. This work asks what happens when the search for security becomes a process of adapting ourselves to the systems that promise it.

Drawing on Simone de Beauvoir’s descriptions of existential attitudes and Martin Heidegger’s notion of “fallenness,” the video stages an encounter between figures whose gestures gradually bring them into a shared order. An apparently impartial act of pouring water establishes the system and invites participation. As others follow, their movements become restrained; restlessness gives way to conformity.

Through repetition and the gradual slowing of bodily movement, the work explores the tension between reassurance and restraint. As the figures settle into a shared rhythm, their individual gestures begin to fade. Stability is not a reward without cost; it demands something in return.
